“I’ve walked part of the French Way with my wife, and the Portuguese route with friends. Now, with a pal, we’re 1000 kilometres into the Via de la Plata —the hardest one— and we’re about to finish it.
All of them were fun, good experiences… and interesting too. But there’s one —especially one— that I’ll always remember fondly…
About six years ago, the relationship between my son and I wasn’t going through its best moment. He was young, really young, only 21, and I… well—we all have our blemishes. The thing is that I got to convince him, I don’t know how, to come with me and walk the French Way. A whole month ahead, he and I alone: walking, talking, meeting other pilgrims… Starting at the beginning, at Saint Jean Pied de Port. What happened —and this is something I recommend to my friends if I think they must be going through something similar— is that this experience, those weeks we spent together, changed our relationship —probably forever— for the very best, and made us feel closer than ever.”

“He hecho parte del Camino Francés con mi mujer, y el Portugués con varios amigos. Ahora llevo unos mil kilómetros de la Via de la Plata -el más duro- con un compañero. Estuvieron todos bien, fueron buenas expericiencias…e interesantes. Pero mira, hay uno- sobre todo uno- que siempre recordaré con cariño…

Hace unos seis años, la relación con mi hijo no estaba pasando por su mejor momento. Él era joven, muy joven; veintiún años, y yo…bueno; todos tenemos nuestras cosas. El caso es que conseguí convencerlo, no sé muy bien cómo, para que se viniera conmigo a hacer el Camino Francés. Todo un mes juntos, él y yo solos: caminando, hablando, conociendo gente…Empezando desde el principio, desde Saint Jean Pied de Port. Lo que pasó -y es algo que le recomiendo a todos mis amigos cuando creo que están pasando por algo parecido- es que esa experiencia, esas semanas que pasamos juntos, cambiaron nuestra relación -estoy convencido de que para siempre- y nos unieron más que nunca.”
