Mili, Wilma, Luís Ángel, and Susana, (Clockwise starting at the upper left corner) are from Puerto Rico and Argentina, but they are currently living in the U.S. They are doing the Camino for different reasons:
Mili: I’m sixty wonderful years old, and Ijust felt that this was the right time to come here and thank Santiago for my beautiful children and grandchildren. I’ve been wanting to do it for a while, but when you are a working mother and spouse, it’s not easy to find the time.”
Susana: “I’m here as a homage to my late husband. He was a wonderful man, a wonderful spouse, and a wonderful father. We got married 50 years ago, and I’ve brought a picture of our wedding to have it stamped at the cathedral.”
Wilma:” Our older children —Luis Angel’s and mine— did the Camino in 2009 and it changed his life, even his vocation. He was so impressed with the Romanesque churches he saw here, that he switched his career from Political sciences to Art history. While he was walking he used to call us —he was deeply moved— and tell us about the landscapes, the wonderful nature, and the other pilgrims. In 2015 I came here. I did it as a way of trying to understand my son better and to connect with him on a deeper level. A week after I got home, he died of leukaemia. The illness defeated him in only 36 hours. He was about to turn 26. We are giving these handkerchiefs to all the pilgrims in our group, they have these feathers drawn on then, that, for us, represent our son.
I’m also picking the ones that I find on the road. In some way, my eyes just seem to look for them on their own, and they —the feathers— just keep showing up.
We are here, his father and I, as a way of celebrating his life in ours, and our life in his. And to show others that there is hope; that this life isn’t the end, and that we will be together again.”

Mili, Wilma, Luís Ángel, y Susana, (En el sentido de las agujas del reloj desde arriba a la izquierda) son de Puerto Rico y Argentina, aunque viven en Estados Unidos. Están haciendo el camino por distintos motivos:
Mili: “Cumplo sesenta maravillosos años y creo que este es el momento para agradecerle a Santiago por mis preciosos hijos y por mis nietos. Llevaba tiempo queriendo venir, pero cuando una es esposa y madre, y además trabaja, no es fácil encontrar el momento.”
Susana: “Yo estoy aquí para celebrar a mi marido: fue un hombre, un esposo y un padre maravilloso. Nos casamos hace cincuenta años, y traigo la foto del casamiento para sellarla en la catedral.”
Wilma: “Nuestro hijo mayor -el de Luís Ángel y mío- vino en 2009 y le cambió la vida, incluso lo que quería estudiar. Quedó tan impresionado por las iglesias románicas que abandonó la idea de hacer Ciencias Políticas y empezó a estudiar Historia del arte. Mientras estaba caminando nos llamaba por teléfono, impresionado, y nos hablaba de los paisajes, de la naturaleza, y de los peregrinos.
En 2015 lo hice yo, entre otras cosas, como una forma de establecer un diálogo con mi hijo y entenderlo mejor. Cuando volví a casa, una semana después, falleció de leucemia. La enfermedad se lo llevó en 36 horas. Iba a cumplir 26 años.
Le hemos dado estos pañuelos a todos los del grupo; tienen plumas, que lo representan a él.
También voy recogiendo las que me encuentro en el camino. De alguna forma mis ojos las buscan instintivamente, y ellas siempre aparecen.
Estamos aquí, su padre y yo, para celebrar su vida en nuestra vida, y nuestra vida en su vida. Y para ser testigos de que hay esperanza, de que esto no termina aquí, y de que nos volveremos a ver.”
