Víctor: “This is our fifth Camino together. We met while doing the first one, in 2013, in Palas de Rey, in a pub near the road, drinking some beers.”

Mercedes: “Victor is from Granada and I’m from Murcia. We went back home after walking the Camino in August of that year and we began talking on the phone. A month later, in September, we went to Cabo de Gata together, and that’s when the relationship really started. We still live in different cities, but we meet every weekend and, every two years, we walk the Camino together.”

Víctor: “So far, we’ve walked the French Way, the Portuguese twice -one of the times with my children-, the North route, which we are doing litle by little… This year it was the North route’s turn again, but since this year is the Xacobeo, we wanted to finish in Santiago.

The Camino has something… it’s special. If you go walking, let’s say, from Cuenca to Albacete, the people who see you will think ‘Look at that hippie! He surely has no car and no house, that’s why he’s walking’. Here it’s different. Here you are a ‘Pilgrim’, with a capital ‘P’, and people like you and they treat you well.”

Mercedes: “The Camino is wonderful and Galicia is beautiful with these gorgeous landscapes and these nice people”.

Víctor: “It’s a continuous surprise.”

Víctor: “Este es nuestro quinto Camino juntos. Nos conocimos en el primero, en 2013, en Palas de Rey, en un bar de carretera tomándonos unos quintos”.

Mercedes: “Víctor es de Granada y yo de Murcia. Volvimos a casa del Camino en agosto de ese año y empezamos a hablar por teléfono. Al mes siguiente, en septiembre, fuimos juntos a Cabo de Gata, y ahí fue cuando de verdad empezó la relación. Ahora seguimos viviendo cada uno en su ciudad, pero nos vemos los fines de semana y, cada dos años, hacemos el Camino juntos”.

Víctor: “Hasta ahora hemos hecho el Camino Francés, el Portugués dos años -uno de ellos con mis hijos-, el del Norte que estamos haciendo poco a poco, por tramos. Este año nos tocaba seguir con ese, pero como era Xacobeo queríamos terminar en Santiago.

El Camino tiene algo… es especial. Si tú te vas caminando, por ejemplo, de Cuenca a Albacete, la gente que te vea dirá, ‘¡Mira ese pies negros, no tiene coche ni casa donde dormir, por eso va caminando’. Aquí no, en el Camino eres un ‘Peregrino’, con ‘P’’ mayúscula, y la gente te valora y te respeta”.

Mercedes: “El Camino es una maravilla, y Galicia nos encanta, con estos paisajes y esta gente”.

Victor: “Es una sorpresa continua”.
