Da-Eun: “I’m here as a group guide, with Chul Joo and another fourteen people, all from Corea and all seniors. I live in Madrid, so I speak Spanish fluently and that helps, but it is my first time as a guide and also my first time at the Camino. I made all the arrangements for the trip in five days.”

-And how is it going?

“Mmm… Not so well, actually.”

-How come?

“Well, yesterday, for example, an old woman —one of the olders—  was left behind. She deviated from the path or got lost, I don’t know. But the rest of the group, who were already sitting at the restaurant, safe and comfortable,  didn’t want to wait for her. They just wanted to eat. It was a revolt. A tense situation. They seemed really, really selfish to me.”

-Well, if that’s the worst thing that has happened so far…

“Yes, it is, but it was hard, it was very hard. I even cried.”

-Wow…

-And what about you, Chul Joo, Why are you here?

“I guess I just wanted to check how my health is.”

-And how is it?

“Well, I’m the oldest in the group, I’m 78, and I’m the one who sets the pace, the first to arrive at the hostel every day. And even Da-Eun has problems keeping up with me. So, I guess it’s good.”

-It is, indeed…

“Da-Eun: He venido como guía de un grupo, con Chul Joo y otras catorce personas. Son todos de Corea y son gente mayor. Yo vivo en Madrid, así que hablo Español y eso me ayuda, pero es mi primera vez como guia y mi primera vez en el Camino. Preparé todo el viaje en cinco días”

-¿Y qué tal te ha ido?

“¿La verdad? No muy bien.”

-Vaya. ¿Y eso?

“Pues mira, ayer mismo, por ejemplo, una mujer mayor -de las más mayores del grupo- una señora de 75 años, se quedó atrás, se desvió o se perdió, no lo sé, y el resto de sus compañeros, que ya estaban sentados para comer, no quisieron esperar. Fue una especie de motín. Una situación muy tensa. Me parecieron muy egoistas”

-¿Y eso es lo peor que te ha pasado?

“Sí, sí que es. Pero fue duro. Fue muy duro. Hasta Lloré y todo”

-Vaya…

-Y tú, Chul Joo, ¿Por qué estás aquí?

“Creo que porque quería comprobar qué tal estoy de salud.”

-¿Y qué tal estás?

“ Pues soy el mayor del grupo, porque tengo 78 años, y aun así soy el que marca el ritmo al resto,  el primero en llegar todos los días al alberge, y hasta Da-Eun tiene que apurar para alcanzarme. Así que creo que bien, bastante bien. No me voy a quejar.”

-No, mejor que no…
