“Why have you come to the Camino?”
Uri: “Why?”
“Yes.”
Uri: “Why not?”
“Yeah, but, I mean, this is not your typical holiday.”
Uri: “We don’t do things because they are typical… or not.”
“Ok…”
Uri: “Maybe is just to get away from too much technology, or something like that. Here you only have to walk, talk, eat and shit. It’s simpler.”
“What about you, Patrick, how has it been so far?
Patrick: “Good, everything good, but it’s only our second day, so…”
“So, you’ve barely begun.”
Patrick: “Yes, we’ve barely begun so nothing remarkable yet, but I’ve heard that the hallucinations kick in on day 3, is that right?”
“Yeah, well… I think so.”
(Laughs.)

(Curious note: The stick that Patrick is leaning on in the picture has come with him all the way from Ireland; it’s from his farm, and he plans to bring it again for his next Camino, the French Way, later this year.)

“¿Por qué habéis venido al Camino?”
Uri: “¿Por qué?”
“Si.”
Uri: “¿Por qué no?”
“Ya. Quiero decir que estas no son las típicas vacaciones.”
Uri: “Claro, pero nosotros no hacemos las cosas por que sean tipícas… o no”
“Vale.”
Uri: “A lo mejor es solo una forma de escapar de la tecnología, del exceso de tecnología, o algo así. Aquí solo tienes que caminar, hablar, comer y cagar. Es todo más sencillo.”
“Y tú, Patrick, ¿Todo bien hasta ahora?”
Patrick: “Bien, todo bien, pero todavía es nuestro segundo día, así que…”
“Así que aún acabáis de empezar.”
Patrick: “Sí, nada destacable por ahora. He oído que las alucinaciones llegan a partir de tercer día, ¿no?”
“Sí. Eso dicen.”
(Risas.)
