“I’m a protestant pastor and teacher of History of religions at Hastings College in Nebraska.
We projected “The way” at a little film festival we did in college, and liked it very much. Shortly afterwards, I began putting up together this trip with Pedro, a Spanish colleague, and his students.
I think the boys are enjoying it, but you can never be sure. It’s like the parable: you can only sow the seeds, what happens afterwards is not up to you. Maybe now they’re tired, suffer from blisters, or are finding it hard to carry those heavy backpacks, but who knows if, in a few years, they’ll realize that this experience has been an important one in their lives, and feel grateful for it.
What’s relevant about something like this -and I don’t care whether or not Santiago is buried here- is the way it’s able to connect people, really different people, from all over the world.”

“Soy pastor protestante y profesor de historia de las religiones. En un ciclo de cine en la universidad proyectamos “The way” y me encantó. Al poco empecé a organizar este viaje con Pedro, un colega español, y sus estudiantes.
Creo que a los chavales les está gustando, pero no lo sé. Es como la parábola, tú sólo puedes plantar las semillas, lo que pase a partir de ahí, ya no es asunto tuyo. Ahora quizás estén cansados, y lo único que les preocupe sea una ampolla en el pie, o cuanto les pesa la mochila, pero a lo mejor, en unos años, se dan cuanta de lo mucho que esta experiencia les ha aportado, y se sientan agradecidos. Quién sabe.
Lo importante de una tradición como ésta -y me da igual si Santiago está enterrado aquí o no- es como es capaz de conectar a gente de todo el mundo.”
