“My first Camino was in 2001. Things weren’t going very well with Sabine, and I needed some time on my own. I did the French route from Saint Jean —like now—  wearing, if you can believe it, exactly the same clothes that I’m wearing today. Before arriving in Cebreiro, in Travadelo, after having deeply missed her the whole time, I sat on a rock, and sent her a text: ‘Would you marry me?’. When I arrived in Santiago I went straight to the airport —I didn’t even visit the cathedral— and paid a small fortune for a direct flight. All I wanted was to see her, to be with her. This time we’ve come together, and we’re celebrating. In the same place where I proposed to her, sitting on the same rock, we opened a bottle of wine, made a toast, and drank it to the last drop. And this time, obviously, we’re going to visit the cathedral and, after that, we’ll go to Finisterre and burn these clothes. I think it’s about time.”

“En 2001 hice mi primer Camino. Las cosas no iban demasido bien entre nosotros, y necesitaba estar solo. Caminé desde Francia y llevaba, si te lo puedes creer, exactamente la misma ropa que llevo ahora. Antes de llegar a O Cebreiro, en Trabadelo, después de echarla de menos todo el tiempo, me senté en una piedra y le mandé un sms: ‘¿Querrías casarte conmigo?’ Cuando llegué a Santiago fui directo al aeropuerto -ni me acerqué a la catedral- y pagué una fortuna por un billete directo para volver a casa. Sólo quería verla y estar con ella. Esta vez hemos venido juntos y estamos celebrando. En el mismo sitio donde le pedí matrimonio, en la misma roca, hemos brindado con una botella de vino y nos la hemos bebido entera. Y esta vez, por supuesto, sí que vamos a visitar la catedral. Después nos vamos a ir a Finisterre y vamos a quemar esta ropa. Me parece que ya va siendo hora.”
